Default Sound insulation and deadener

I'm about to install my new gas tank and was going to clean out the trunk of excess glue and dirt and crap.... was wondering if would you normally apply the insulation right onto the metal, and then lay the sound deadener mat on top of it? Do i need to prep the metal other than cleaning if of all dirt and grease?

With dynamat it just needs to be a clean surface. If you want to do the best Second Skin is it. Having said that since I get a really nice discount on dynamat currently I'm going with it.

Make sure you paint the surface first or that it was already painted. I went with some sheets of Damplifier lined the trunk surfaces on the inside and a sheet in each quarter panel and up into the sail panels too and it worked great.

When i ripped out the original carpet, there was actually no paint. Would priming it be good enough?

You'll want to paint it so it's at least sealed and somewhat protected from moisture. Primer alone is porous and does not protect against moisture. Priming and painting under it isn't necessary, but it will prolong the life of the metal underneath so you wont have to tear out all that deadener again down the line.

this is my plan:
http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/alte...in-103610.html
then go with fatmat, on top of this home made lizard skin, Its cheaper and its the same stuff as dynamat.

Also if you want to go even cheaper? check out the roofing supplies in lowes, they sell a product just like dynamat/fatmat. it just comes in smaller rolls, i just cant think of the name, sorry

I may look into this Lowes version of the Dynamat.

How much square footage of Dynamat is typically used for a car? I'm reaching the stage where I can do this after I finish undercoating the complete inside floors.

Lynn it differs due to the size of the car. For example I am putting about 120 + sq ft of Dynamat Extreme in my car b/c I want it to be very quiet inside. Granted it's expensive but I have a nice discount through the company I work for so I'm doing it now when I can get a great deal on it. You could probably get by with 100 sq ft but I wanted to make sure I got everything I could done right the first time.
