Default coupe to fastback conversion

Well I'm finally commited to this conversion. Picked up a 66 coupe in New Mexico last year and have been wondering what to do with it. My buddy in Alabama was giving me crap for not working on it and said that I should turn it into a fastback like they are doing in Car Craft. I picked up the mag and they doing a 67 coupe to fastback conversion. Since the parts are availible in the after market to do the 67 it is a much easier conversion. I checked with Dynacorn to see when the parts would be out for the 65/6 fastback and got the same answer as always "Next Year". Found a rusty fastback body in Oklahoma and went and picked it up over the week end for $1300. Now I guess I'm commited. I have been stripping the fastback and hope to have the two cars married together by the end of the month. I'm pretty jazzed about this project. It should be a lot of fun.

Is the roof the only thing salvageable? No way to keep the fastback vin?
Anyway, it can obviously be a cool car.

The fastback is pretty rusty. I got the car without a title or VIN's. So the only thing it is really good for is doing a conversion. The bones of the chassis are actually pretty rust free. Front and rear frames along with the rockers and shock towers are ok. All the body sheet metal is too rusty along with the floors and the trunk floors. There actually was a VIN on the passengers side that was not cut out. If I could have gotten a title with the car I would have considered fixing the fastback. I am beyond that at this point though.

Use the coupe for parts for the fastback.

I guess, in a way, you could say that I am. I'm just using a lot more of the coupe than the fastback.

No i mean cut the parts off the coupe weld them on the fastback. The down fall of putting the fastback roof on a coupe is the vin will show its a coupe it won't be worth what a fastback will be.And with people doing this there will be less fastbacks out there so there price will keep going up in years to come.

It would be much harder to do that way and since I don't have a title for the fastback it would be pointless. I look at it as there will be more fastbacks out there. This fastback would have never been put back on the road by any sane person, so since I'm using the roof and making a fastback that will be one more fastback on the road.

Even if I had a fastback VIN i would do the repairs as I'm doing now and then just change the coupe VIN to a fastback VIN so it amounts to the same thing. I just end up with a fastback that has a coupe VIN.

Started chopping on the coupe to get it ready for the fastback roof.
