I have a 4 barrall (an autolite 4300 and a holley).

Doesn't look like this one has the hole.

Phenolic spacers are great for preventing heat transfer from the hot engine to the fuel in the carb bowls as mentions above. Also, the added height gives you more intake plenum which can help with performance. The rub is you have to have the room under the hood. Many aftermarket intakes are tall. For instance, my Edelbrock Air Gap intake barely allows my air cleaner to clear the hood, so I cannot run a phenolic spacer.
