For the price of 34 bucks and the KNOWLEDGE that you would gain from rebuilding it yourself............PRICELESS!

I have a carb spacer on it as well, it was suggested awhile back to help with any vapor lock issues, should I keep that on after rebuilt/new carb is replaced? or see how it works without it on? Do I need to get any new gaskets for spacer or just used the current ones?
Randy: of course it's a good experience to rebuld. but why rebuild a carb that you don't want to keep?

ndnboy: i'm with JMD. Keep the spacer and change the carb.
BUT! the edelbrock has a different hole pattern. So if the spacer you got has two small front holes and two large holes in the back you can only use thios one with a spreadbore carb like the edelbrock. if the spacer only has one huge hole for all 4 venturis, you should be ablke to re-use it.

As for the carb. I heard the same about the summit carbs. it's like a mix between a holley and an autolite 4100. for that money you can't beat it, but I never used one of them
And a 600cfm carb right out of the box will run miles better than a 750 out of the box on a 289. You will have a very hard time to get the 750 to run right on the 289. even 600 is already a lot. But modern carbs can handle this a bit better. so this is why a modern 600cfm on a 289 is usually not a problem. if the 750 cfm was planted on the carb without adjusting jets/needles/ mixture etc, you will gain:
- better thtottle response/driveability
- better gas mileage
- more power

WTF, this is a PITA, car stalled out again this morn, rode great over the weekend and this morning, then, sputter, sputter, stalls out again : (

Mech said its def the carb, no other item to check for, he agreed that current carb is big and if I get a new one to get a 600 cfm rated carb, looks like I will be checking out summit later : (
