Default AOD block plate

Hi - I have a question for those of you who have done the swap to AOD. I pulled a block plate off a 86 Mustang GT with an AOD. It is like the one in the picture. Is this the correct plate?

The one that came off of my engine (with original C4) doesn't have the dogleg inspection cover. The holes all line up but will there be a problem removing the inpsection cover when it's bolted together?

Thanks!!

I wound up with 2 plates and no clue where the second came from, but the starter holes were different between them due to a slight change in location. Check this first to make sure yours isn't different as I thought I had a choice but didn't.

The change in location was due to the 2 flywheels/flexplate used by ford, either 157 teeth or 164 teeth. Depending on which flywheel/bellhousing you have the locations will be different. You need to make sure you have the right combination.

The holes line up for the starter and bellhousing. This should be for a 164 tooth flexplate since that is what the 5.0 and AOD came with in 86. Just need to know if there will be a different plate needed for the conversion form a C4 to AOD. Thanks!

the flexplate you need is a flexplate from the FMX equipped 71-73 car that is 164 tooth with the proper balance for a pre 1982 motor

Hmmm, I've been asking for flexplates for a 1991 Crown Victoria with the 5.8 engine to mate AOD's to 289's and 302's. Wonder if it's the same part number as the FMX Mustang flexplate? I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I already have the correct flexplate - it is a 28oz imbalance with 164 tooth. I need to know about the block plate. Thanks!!

Yours looks nothing like the one that came in the conversion kit I bought. Check out the one these guys sell.

Check out this link. I used the one from the 93 Engine/Aod that I picked up, it bolted right up to my 351 and everything is working great.
