electrical pulsing
the car is a 66 coupe and when its running the electrical system pulses, my headlights dim and brighten with the idle of the car, and my amp gauge jumps around, do you guys know what this is? voltage regulator? altinator?

I solved this problem for about $12. Under the hood is a mechanical voltage regulator. Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a electronic one. The mechanical one has moving parts which causes the flickering, the electronic one has no moving parts.
Mine has a silver cover which I like but I'm told you can take the cover off your old unit and put it on the new one for a stock look.
Fastest, cheapest, easiest repair I ever made to my baby.

you would think!
I dont think mine did when I picked it up. maybe the plastic was shotty and after 40 years they all break and no one bothers to replace them.
If the regulator doesnt help then you'll have to look into a grounding issue.

I don't think the 65/6 came with shrouds. Plus, they were so minimal they hardly helped. I installed one with absolutely no benefit. I still have the scar to remember it by. POS in my opinion.

so i talked to a dude at napa and he said in order to get an electronic voltage regulator in a 66 mustang it would have to be built into the altinator. does this compute with you guys? is there some part out there that i can put in there and not worry about? or will i have to put a voltage regulator in there every few years?
