If he wants gas mileage tell him buy a civic or tdi vw.A newer engine isn't going to help that much a early mustang has the aerodynamics of a brick lol.20 maybe 25 mpg is the best the car will ever get no matter what engine is used.If your going that far in to fabing why not run a cummins 4bt at least then it will have some torque to it.
well im doing to do it for my buddy that has the 66 and he wants more of a gas saver then hp. also im having the motor mounts and stuff that i need fabricated.
i no its a tuff one but ill let you guys know when its done if i can get it to work. but i all realy need is a Wiring Diagrams and i should b good. any one know were i could get a good one
What kind of gas mileage are you expecting to get? A near-stock inline 6 with a 2bbl carburetor and a T5 can get you quite close to 30 mpg (buddy of mine gets 28, but most see about ~21 city, ~25 hwy). And, it's all bolt-on
But, be adventurous if you'd like! I think it'd be a cool swap, just not very cheap & easy
I also have a 66 6cyl auto and my son's wrecked 06 6cyl and was wondering if a complete swap out was possible would like suspension steering drive train brakes all of it under old body is that possible

I think the only way to do that right involves saving as much of the S197 floorpan as possible and dropping as much of the '66 sheetmetal as possible over it. The wheelbases are close (108" for the Classic, 107.1" for the '06). I think the S197 strut tower height if left unmodified (so the car can use S197 springs and struts rather than expen$$ive custom stuff) ends up defining the body height.
Some guy over in Norway is doing exactly that. I'll try to find a link for you.
Google "SN65" for the same thing done by Bob and Wayne Julian a few years ago with an SN95 floorpan. Keep in mind that their project was probably more involved due to more wheelbase mismatch, but that they're kind of a high-end operation.
