that wasn't bad

the way i did it:

1. covered important areas.
2. tore off big chunks.
3. soaked in kerosine.
4. scrapped 95% with single blade razor knife.
5. Made it nice and silver w/ brass wire wheel.
6. shop vac cleanup.

will take look at roloc next time i'm at store.

I always finish the gasket removal process with a 1" x 3" x 8" steel bar and some 80 grit paper using solvent as lubricant. That way I can check it for flat and the surface will hold a gasket well. (even if I use some silver paint on a head gasket)

interesting.

someone was talking about outdated content in tom monroe's book; mentioned painting head gasket as out dated.

i figured if tom said it then it will work on some gaskets. even old head gaskets tend to last for decades and too many miles to count.

can you offer some experiences reguarding paint and head gaskets?

i have used an over sized file to true header ports b4.

Go with a set of Cometic MLS gaskets and never worry removing them again. If you consider the new gaskets that are available today, there is outdated information in the book.

not trying to step on any toes

that ford shop manual is a lil on the dated side too.

i'm satisfied w/ both for stock build.

when you start upping hp per cube then head gaskets, etc will take a beating.

what's your fav performance sbf book?
