PLEASE HELP STARTER KEEPS CRANKING!!!!!
SO I'VE INSTALLED A NEW IGNITION SWITCH, NEW STARTER, NEW SILENOID, AND NEW BATTERY BUT WHEN I TRY TO START THE CAR THE STARTER KEEPS CRANKING, SOMETIMES IT WILL KEEP CRANKING AFTER I PULL THE KEY OUT. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY INPUT. THANX!

you replaced the electrical part of the ignition switch or the lock tumbler?? sounds like the tumbler might be sticking....try pulling the wire of the post closest to the positive side of the solenoid battery cable and see if it stops cranking....
also typing in all caps is considered screaming just for your information..........

The "i" terminal is just like the cable to the starter, only supposed to be engaged during cranking to provide 12v to the coil for startup. After the engine is running, the "i" terminal should be dead and the coil will only get 9v so the points don't burn up.
Since I completely rewired my car (big but rewarding job), I don't have the "i" terminal connected.

aye. get a voltmeter or at least a testlight (you know those thingies that light up when you have 12V+ at tip and a clamp in back for ground)
The way the selonoid is wired is pretty simple:
http://www.gascc.ie/index.php?option...tech&showall=1
first thing you do is disconnect both inner cables from the selonoid (the one on the 'S' and the one on the 'I' post (the small ones anyway)
So nothing is connected on those ports.
1. ask someone to get into the car with key. When he turns the key to start nothing should happen (no cranking)
2. ask to turn the key to start position full right. you might have several cables that were connected before. And a few of them might have 12v+ at this time.
3. ask to let go start position so that the switch is in ignition position. Only one of the cables that previously had power is now without power.
Find this cable.
once you have it doublecheck again. make sure that when key is in start position it has power and if it's not in start position (ignition only) it has no power.
Hook up this cable to the 'S' port of the starter selonoid. Don't hook up any other cable for the moment. Isolate so they can't touch ground.
the 's' port should be marked on starter selonoid. if in doubt try the one that is closer top the big one going to battery.
now try this again. options are:
a) works fine now
b) it doesn't crank at all
c) it cranks but doesn't fire
let us know what you come up with ...
