Default Dropping the distributor the Ford way v. Chevy way.

Ok like I have said in other posts I am a chevy guy just learning about fords. For dropping the dizzy in a chevy you follow these procedures.
1. Pull #1 plug and turn over till you feel the compression stroke. Continue on till you get to degrees BTDC.
2. Drop the dizzy in with rotor pointing towards the #1 cylinder.
3. reinstall #1 plug.
4. Route wires to 18436572.
5. Fire it up and set timing without VAC to 18 degrees advanced at idle with mechanical advance all in by 3k rpms.
6. Hook up VAC canister. Usualy winds up to about 54 degrees total when all in around 3600.

Atleast this is how My 454 aluminum head BBC ran best.

What are the procedures for a Ford motor? Also and it may be a dumb question but does the Ford motor rotate in the same direction as a chevy??

Thanks
Wade

I line the engine up to TDC on the compression stroke, and drop the distributor with the rotor pointing toward the master cylinder. Works every time.

The SB Ford order 15426378. Since 7-8 are in order, it's important to keep these wires separated as far as possible.

And,,,, the engine rotation is the same as Chevy, but the distributor rotor turns counterclockwise so you have to wire it backward....

there is no need to do all of that. just take the dit. cap off and mark where the rotor is pointing, you need to mark the back too just in case (make and imaginairy line betwin the marks) it works with any brand (toyota nissan chevy ford ) i have done it like that with all the cars that i have had.. unless there is no distibutor to begin with

If I get this car the engine is in peices so I will have to rebuild it from the ground up. Trying to learn as much as possible about assembly.

Hehehe well that maube true but my 454 put out 382 rwhp so a Ford motor will have a lot to live up to... ;-)

Oh yea....

Ford numbers their cylinders differently than GM, (and probably everyone else).

and,,,, 302, 5.0 had a couple of different firing orders as well....

18436572 is a number that's also been with me a very very long time, kinda like 8675309. I still for the life of me can't remember my 302ho/351 firing order.

Does the same apply to the 6-5, 4-3, and 2-1 wires with the 351w?
