c4 vs 5 speed...my on going debate
i just can't decide if i want to go the quick easy and cheaper route by rebuilding my c4. im building a 408 for the car and i beefed up c4 with a nice stall speed and a valve body would be nice, but i keep thinking 5 speed. only problem is modern driveline quoted me 4400 for a tko600. its pointless for me to go t5, ill blow it up in a week. i want those 4.10s too, but if i go c4 ill need 3.73s to be able to go on the highway. what do you guys think? build my c4? or spend 4400 on a 5speed kit. money is an issue, so id have to save up for a while for that 5speed also...

What kind of driving do you do? Does it make sense to build for that one trip per year to the strip, or the other 364 days?
I'd argue a T5 would do fine IF you don't drive it like you want to break it. So the question comes back to this: If you drive your car hard, then the C4 will have built in insurance to survive your aggressive driving. If you dial yourself back some, the T5 will work fine. I realize everyone is different, but for me, I like moving up through the gears, and that is more important to me than squeezing that last 10th of a second.
Can you break the T5 with your 408? Yes. Do you have to? No.

its going to be a street car, not a track car. I honestly dont even have plans right now to bring it to the track. however, i do want it to be a mean street car. i would be lying to myself if i said id drive it with ease and make a t-5 last. im not saying ill beat on it all day, but if i had a t5, there would definitely be some stabbing of the gas and dropping the clutch here and there and i just dont want to worry about grenading it. im more concerned with the overdrive. if i run 4.10s witha c4 and a 28inch drag radial ill be around 2800rpms at 55mph. do u guys think this would get annoying on the highway, and can i even run a 28inch drag radial on a 67 coupe with no fabrication?

i had a c4 and went to a 5 speed and im considering going back to a c4.Going through the gears is fun at times and the overdrive is nice, but a auto would be easier on the left leg. Also anything deeper then a 3.55 will wear you out getting passed on the freeway.

I had the same dilemma as you buddy and instead I got myself an AOD as andrew said. I havent installed it yet, have it laying next to my stang on the garage floor. Im hoping I open the garage one day and find it miraculously installed on its own.

i've thought about a beefed up AOD but isn't it expensive for the conversion kit? I thought they didn't just bolt right into the car and some modifications had to be made. noroof66...how high are your rpms at 60 on the highway? 3.55 is a nice gear, but if im making peak power at a higher rpm (I.E. 6,000rpm), won't i need a lower gear to get me up there? (3.73 or 4.10).
