b) you say you ahev a 1965 and the wire is hot. However you say there's only one single wire. However the originaol wiring diagram fior 1965 says
there are two wires. One of them giving constant or ignition 12V+ (yellow)
and the other is green-yellow that goes directly to the horns.

So from all this.
a) where is your 2nd wire?
b) which one do you have? yellow or green yellow?
- if you have green/yellow then I could find a way to do it with a relay (like JMD suggests). but this wire should _NOT_ be hot since it's connected to the horns
- if you only have a yellow cable, the yes this is hot, but where the hell is green/yellow then?
even if we switched it properly at the horn, we need to tell the horns somehow.

Can you do another check there? there should be yellow and yellow/green? any chance anyone with a 1965 could confirm that quickly?
i have a 1964, which is wired totally different at horn (Ford started saving money in 1965 or just went stupid)

Kalli-I need to apologize for throwing you a curve ball. I should have looked before I spoke. One of those times when you think you know more than you do. There are 2 wires and the horn ring is supposed to finish the circuit like the diagram you mentioned said it should be but the copper ring dead shorts out every time so I'm still lost. I have the schematic and never thought of looking at it. I did discover the kit I had was for a generator so I ordered one for an alternator. I am not sure what the difference is but I am going to give it a try. If that doesn't work I'll let you know tomorrow if it comes in.

Just to let you know for future reference, they don't make one for a 65. Thanks.

I worked on mine the other day, and it does have 2 wires. I just noticed you already figured that out.

ya.
1964 1/2 has a generator and only uses 1 wire since it has a horn relay
1965 has an alternator and uses 2 wires since it does not have a horn relay

might have just gotten the wrong one ?! I don't know those steering wheels, but horn wiring on a 1964 and a 1965 is a massive difference

One of the guys from NPD read this forum and did a test project on this wheel. The instructions are really messed up but they figured it out. If you want to PM me with your e-mail, I will send you the instructions and explanation to get it to work. I would have never figured it out. I haven't tried it yet but will as soon as I get the brakes on the front switched.

Did you use the ring with the tabs on it or how did you get it to work? Got instructions from NPD but haven't tried it yet.
