Fuel Leak HELP!!

Default Fuel Leak HELP!!

Ok so my guess is I new a new carb, but thought I would throw out the question just to be sure.

My 1966 mustang has a 289 and an Edlebrock 1405 carb.

It was running just fine until the other day.

Now is will start for 2.5 seconds and then no more. When we turn the key the engine tries to turn over, but sound likes its out of gas. No worries there is actually gas in it, we double checked.

BUT... after turning the key over a few times when you stop turning it over gas begins to leak out of the carb !! No Good !! It is leaking out of the spot where the throttle linkage connects to the top of the carb.

Here are pics to show you. The fuel is coming out of the whole where the black *** enters the carb.







Any help is GREAT !!

rebuild the carb, it costs about 20$ and should fix the problem, if it doesnt your only out 20$ and know that you probably need a new carb.

Thats not an edl. Carb. Its a webber. Sounds like its time for a rebuild kit..

if it's not too late only take apart the top end and replace that part. IMHO rebuilding the entire thing is a PITA when you may only have to replace that section that is broken. Or just step up to a 600 cfm holley

its good to just rebuild the carb if it hasnt been rebuilt before, keeps it running good.

if you have the money for a edelbrock or holley go for it, if your engine is stock then go for the holley 570 or any 500cfm carb. if its modded generally its horsepower*2 so a stock 289 would have roughly 225 horsepower so 450cfm, most people go for 570 since it doesnt hurt and you have room for modding in the future.

600cfm is a bit much if you have a close to stock 289.

Does Webber make the low end Edlbrock? or is it possible the guy we just bought it from put an Edl logo on the front?
Either way Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
So now to decide to rebuild or purchase a new one? I have hear Holly is the way to go, but I know we all have our opinions.
Is a Webber worth rebuilding??

Ok so the Edelbrock 1405 is produced by Weber in the US. So it is both...

a holley 570+4bbl intake manifold will run you near 600$. i say rebuild then if that doesnt work buy a 570 holley with the intake manifold.
