How fast
How fast is your Mustang? I'm interested in top speed and accelaration (0-100 km/h or 60mph)?
I'm getting my 65 Mustang coupe in 2 months and want to know how fast it will be. It has 289cu 2 brl V8 engine with 200 horse powers and 3 speed manual gearbox. It was rebuilt 3 years ago. What kind of speed can i expect?

These Mustangs are not muscle cars.
These old Mustangs were never meant for speed...I mean...you can add a crate engine and have lots of HP...but what you have now...don't expect a speed demon.
I have never driven more than 90mph on it (my personal highway speed of preference is around 65-70mph).
I'd say your top speed in your stock ride will be around 100mph...after that...you'll be pushing it....unless you modify it of course.
I prefer to style and profile....to me...cruisng is where these old classics shine.

The 3 speed is the big speed killer and that 289 unless its freshly rebuilt its probably 100hp after all the wear and tear. These cars where kinda the eco cars of the day unless its a big block or a Shelby a stock normal mustang is kinda slow.

I hate to say it, but out of the box, these weren't hot rods. They were meant to be fun around town and agile and sporty. High speed handling is OK at best. There's plenty of these going fast and handling great, but those take a bit of work. Hey, it's a modified Falcon! Now as for horsepower and performance, in their day, they were high on the list. If you asked that question in 65-70, you'd get much better answers. In today's world, there's lots to be desired in stock form for what you're asking it to do. For a fun kick-in-the-pants, you won't be disappointed. For a 1/4 mile brute, you will be. Be open minded and there's lots of fun ahead.

With stock 2 bbl and the 3 speed don't expect much. I've gotten my 0-60 down in the 7's but it was over time and quite a few things done (first thing was putting a 4 bbl). Had the speedo topped out once but again not close to stock at that time. The 289 is fun and all but if you are looking for speed and acceleration you might consider a swap.
