Supercharger for a stock 302
#11
See Im new to the restoring and restomods scene, so Im seeing that rebuilding the 302 to a 347 and then new rear end gears is probably a smarter way for more power and acceleration. Anyone have any info on costs and instructions, or any other suggestions?

i actually want to know the same. I want to either turbo or supercharge my 66. I have a new rebuilt and i am in the process of installing new heads and i now want to squeeze it.
I have a 150 shot of no2 on it but that shat gets spendy $$$$ should i go turbo or supercharger.
I am going to drop my compression down to about 9:1 and would like to run about 6-8 pounds of boost.

you think filling a botle is expensive, when you piece the power adder together, you could have filled your bottle at least a 100 times. It will nickel and dime you without even realizing it

To answer your question. I would look at a paxton head mounted supercharger. I have a 302 as well, but it's been built with the right bolts and gaskets to be able to accept mild boost.
In addition to the bolts, gaskets and what type of pistons (flat, dished etc...) you'll have to look at your induction set up as well. Is it going to be efi or carb? If it's a carb like mine, you'll have to get one with a blow by feature and mechanical secondaries. Most of us have vacuum secondaries with no blow by.
As addressed by previous posters on this thread, you'll need to upgrade suspension, transmission and possibly the "frame" to handle that additional horsepower and torque.
As stated by someone on this board one time, that dude from Texas, urban cowboy or something, with the red 69 or 70 mustang, anyways, you'll find the weakest part of your car and that's what will break. So you'll want to upgrade all those items before/during the installation of your supercharger.
I have been toying with the supercharger idea but I might just opt for a 420 something block. I have a muscle car, when I pop the hood, I want to see a big ignorant motor under there not some highly technical science project. If I were to get a supercharger I would get a period correct one.
