Default Front Torque box install

Installing subframe connectors, and might as well add torque boxes....why not?! right? After looking at the boxes, the two piece units are best for ease of installation, but I have one question....If your floors are in real good shape, how do you weld the top-side portion of the torque box without cutting your good floorboard? This is for a 66 coupe. Ideas?

Well, you dont really weld it to the toe board, just to the rocker. But you do weld it to the rocker INSIDE the car also.

Here I am pointing to the original 90º bracket that connects the toe to the rocker area.

Here is the same area after I sliced the toe to allow the flange to fit up into the foot well area. (Notice the crafty way I used a backlight to highlight the area in question!)

Trial fitting will tell you how far to slice.

Here is how I pressed the parts into place, first the top was pressed in then the outer part was marked up for hole drilling. Then everything came out for drilling and primers etc.. I welded the inner to the frame and rocker, then rosette welded the outer to the inner and the frame and rocker end.

Good luck!

No it isn't.
It's not "that" easy.
I've done my driver side on my '65 coupe and NO it is not that easy.

I think I would rather put my other quarter panel on then put in the other torque box.
I started it last year, said eff it for now, and I moved on to the back end for now.

Not every having done it, I'll take your word that it's not that easy but excellent illustrations as to how these things fit. Thanks!

That's pretty much the way I did it (except for the sledge hammer instead of the press to get it in ). I also seam welded it all around instead of the puddle welds since I'm more concerned about strength than originality.
