Default 9in rear end noise

351w/tko500 and new 350 richmond gears in the nine inch.

I had a local shop put in 3.50 gears to replace the 3.00.. finely got my car back.

i took the car for a test drive and im getting lots of noise in 5th gear when im running down the highway but only when i apply gas. coasting is silent .

also if you push in the clutch at 80mph the car makes a rumbleing sound and lots of vibration is felt in the stick shift

Any insight?

When i returned to the shop the mechanic seem to think the drive shaft wasn't balanced correctly and that was the reason for all the above .... does this sound correct??

thanks in advance for any help!!!

I put the same Richmond 3.5 gears in my 8 inch and I got noise too, everything was set right, checked and double checked. I think it just might be the brand.

Did they replace the pinion bearing? Sounds like it may be getting ready to go.

Are you only getting the noise in 5th gear?..Seems to me if it was the rear end you would get the noise in all gears not just 5th..What happens if you just slip the trans into neutral instead of holding in the clutch?..Do you still get the noise and vibration in the shifter?

It could be. A balanced drive shaft is required.

If i hit the right RPM in 4th I get the same noise for a sec but, noting like 5th .
as for slipping it in to neutral Ill have to wait untill i get the car back to answer that one.
