Okay to run WITHOUT vacuum advance?

You have that backward. By 1968, the Load-O-Matic was done, killed by the new emissions standards. The Loado was a vacuum-only distributor which worked in concert with the Autolite 1100 ported vacuum.
This is the Load-O-Matic:
66-67 200 with California Emissions and all 200 starting in 68 had a dual-advance distributor, which had both vacuum and centrifugal advance:

Thanks for the input fella's, I do appreciate it. Disconnecting the vacuum advance is only a temporary measure. The truth is, I've run out of money and I can't justify buying a new distributor right now. I paid for the motor with money I've yet to make (credit card). I need the car and didn't have a choice.
Enough of my sad story.
As Jonk67 said, I tested the dizzy and it worked as it should.
BUT, with the carb plugged and the car at idle, I applied vacuum to the dizzy, and it caused the idle to stumble bad, and almost shut down the car. If I am right, that means the distributor is bad, right?
Enough of my sad story.

I also seriously doubt it works "as it should", or you would have no problem.
At worst, it needs professional adjustment of the advance curves.
I also suspect it wasn't connected to the carb properly. It should not effect the idle whether the vacuum advance is connected or not. Sounds to me like it was connected to manifold vacuum.
