determin stall speed
I went to the junkyard and picked up a c4 and it just so happens it already has a stall converter and a shift kit in it. The clutches wern't bad, but I'm going to change them and all the seals anyway to be safe.
How can I determin the stall speed of the converter without waiting untill its in the car? I don't know if its relevant but written in sharpie on the back side it says F-13X hi stall. And the converter itself is grey in color.

Stall speed is determined by the converter build within a specific hp range.
A 3000 rpm stall converter on a 300 hp 289 in a 4500 pound 67 full size Ford would not be a 3000 rpm stall on a 250 hp 260 six cylinder or on a 500 hp 351 in a 2000 pound Mustang.

from my understanding if its a full sized converter in other words it just nicely fits inside the bellhousing then it will be either stock around 14-1600 or an 1800... From 2000 up the converter was smaller in size, as in the bolts that hold the converter in place will be on wings or welded tabs that extend past the converter...thats what i was told anyways by a tci emplyee when I was looking into getting a larger one. I hope this helps

actually I can confirm this. Every high stall converter I've ever gotten has been smaller diameter than stock.
