1) The 289 and 302 have the same bore.

2) Shelby installed 428 engines in hundreds of GT 500 cars. The 428 is externally identical to the stock (optional) 390

3) You don't need a conversion kit, just the stock clutch parts, all of which are available new.

Yeah the 460 is real easy to find ford used them in f350s tell 96.Both big blocks are kinda pricey to build up but make the power.A big block toploader is pricey its probably cheaper to get a tko for it.As far as a big block swap you need a 9 inch rear end a bigger radiator the motor mounts and brackets headers front springs and front disc brakes are a must.

Bone stock 460 with Edelbrock Top End Kit will make 514 HP.

Yep 390 and 428 will be the same for the most part. Can run any 390 big block toploader, think i payed 1300 for my trans set up. Need 390 mounts their around 300 or so when i got them. The you will have to get the hooker headers unless you want to run manifolds which were 600 or so. Not all that expensive to do if you look around for the parts. And the 390 fits in nice no modifications needed to the eng bay. For a rad i just ran a northern universal one with ele fan and never got hot alto my engine was not built, just intake and camed 390.

Yep. Even a bone-stock 460 will shred the tires in a Mustang.

And a junkyard truck FE runs about the same. Compare apples to apples.
