About all your going to find out from the VIN is the car type, year, assembly plant and unit number if the Vin is indeed different from the one on the door.
It took me about 4 months of asking folks on e-bay who were selling cars (with unit #'s close to my car's) what their data plate info was on their car so I could dial in my replacement door plate info.

He's not sure if the car is a 65 or 66 the vin is the only way and never trust the door tag alone.

Thanks everyone. I ended up find the actual VIN nimber under the drivers front fender cut out. Has to do a a little digging out of the paint etc. It is a 1965. Is there anywhere I can check for the misc. data tag.

Sorry, nope! - read my post. It is going to take a lot of investigation on your behalf in order to put the correct info into a door tag.Tthere are several decoders online to get you started but you will need to make some assumptions based on equipment installed.

You may have bigger problems than decoding your car. Now that you have found the correct VIN does the VIN match your title or your door? If it matches the door then it could be trouble because the door tag says right on it "Not for title or registration". I would check your title and see what is going on there.
