Default 1965 VIN help

Hi all,
I'm trying to get some claification on my 1965 mustang. The VIN say 1966 but the body and items on the car say 1965. I purchased as a 1965 and that's what I believe it is. The VIN off the drivers door is 6F07C212707 and 65BH6204A6366. It is a piece of sheet metal that is about 3in x1in with 2 rivets holding it to the door. I don't see a VIN in the cut out of the drivers front quater panel. The car has a full front grill not a floating horse, an alt light cable on gas cap, and small side scoops. The car color is a light blue. Is there any plase else I can find a VIN or any website for more help. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

What does the title say? I thought that the registration places only ask for your vin anyways. And that determines the colour, make, model etc. At least in Hawaii, I had to justify everything that was different from the original and then get a special inspection just for that change. When getting my safety inspection I had to get my 5 speed tranny inspected for proper installation and my coil over suspension measured and proof of an alignment check. It was a real pain....lucky for me that I could pass off my 302 as a 289. I also told them that my loud as hell H-pipe was stock for that year and they took my word for it.

I'm thinking that maybe your door is from another car. Like previously stated, look under the front quarter panel sheet metal along the edge of the engine bay on either driver or passenger side. Driver side should have a cut out, passenger side should be covered up.

Unless I messed it up here is the code:

Year: 6 = 1966

Plant: F = Dearborn, MI

Body Series: 07 = 2 Door Hardtop

Engine: C = 289 2v V8

Unit: 212707

Miscellaneous Vehicle Data

Body: 65B = 2 Door Hardtop, Pony Interior

Color: H = Sahara Beige

Trim: 2 = code not found

Date: 04A = January 04, 1966

D.S.O: 63 = Memphis

Axle: 6 = 2.80:1, Conventional

Trans: 6 = C4 Automatic

Andrewmp6,Musnicki,
Thanks for your info. I'm also thinking that the door plate is wrong. The car is not beige and I don't see any signs of it being beige. I thought H was Caspian Blue? I will try to pull the passenger's side off when I get home. There is no stamp on the drivers side. I've had the car 17 years. Unfortunatly it's been in the garage the past7-10. just got it up and ruinning again and was starting to research it. I'm still thinking that's a 1965. Or it was rebuilt at sometime. The elderly couple I bought it from didn't think so.

Actually only the right fender (rear top) needs to be loosened to check for a VIN on the right rear apron top just inside the fender line. First, I suggest you strip the paint on the cutout area of your left front fender apron top to see if you still need to remove the right fender or not. I would suspect there's been a door change and what you have there on the door plate is from the donor car.

You can get a new door tag made by Marti for about 25 bucks or so.

Jlg2000 I tried to loosen the six bolts on the passengers fender last night and did no see a stamp. Is the stamp closest to the windshield? Is it visible if I just lift the fender bit.
Thanks

2+2 has your area noted with arrows (mid apron area). you need to pull the fender back away from the car about an inch or so, so you may need to remove all but the front-most bolts.
