I would use 2.5" to the mufflers (boxes :-) ) and use reducers to 2.25" (if necessary). You might get a little more out of it with the 2.5" pipes. By the time the exhaust gas gets to the mufflers it will be cooler so smaller pipes (or mufflers) won't hurt the flow much (and will still be plenty for your motor). You should be fine with 2.25" after the mufflers.

aye.... that seems to be the most popular opinion so I'll go with it. 3" collector reduced to 2.5" and at box reduce again to 2.25". should be ok. well at least it's custom l-)

Yup that is what I would do....Several years ago I replaced the front pipes and mufflers on my 302 combo..I went from 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 pipe with better mufflers and kept the 2 1/4 tailpipes....It was 3/10ths quicker in the 1/4 mile..
