Did it both ways with my 66. I switched over to a late model bellhousing and used a cable clutch setup.

The adapter plate and old bell housing works fine (PM me for a good deal on the adapter plate, LOL), but my linkage was such a Frankenstein mix I decided to just put the cable in.

If you decide to stay with the stock linkage you'll need the fulcrum adapter with a late model bell housing.

It's dead easy to use entirely stone-stock clutch linkage when installing a T5. Dunno why yours was a "Frankenstein mix". Every piece of the 66 (and for that matter, 69-70) clutch linkage is available new.

It's easy... I'm cheap. The z bar was a welded contraption and the other pieces were from another year. I didn't build it like that and I didn't want to spend the money to replace them all.

I had the cable, bell, from the T5. I adapted the clutch pedal and it shifts like a dream.
