i recently bought a top end rebuild kit for my 1966 289 mustang (intake manifold,4 barrel carb,air filter and housing and all gaskets and mounting bolts) from summit and after installing the intake manifold i realized a few things

1.)there is no way to hook up the line from the vavle cover to the base of the old carb. Is there anything i can do with this?

2.)there is no way to hook up my air pump. Can i remove it and what do i do with the linesfrom the back of the intake manifold and from the exhaust?

3.)on the new carb there are 3 vacuum hook ups one is pcv vacuum,one is manifold vacuum and the other is the vacuum advance for the distributor. but when i took my old 2 barrel off there was only 1 vacuum line hooked to it and the was the vacuum advance for the distributor. Did i miss something? Is there more vacuum lines?

1) you hook up your pcv to your carb
2) I dont know about the air pump stuff.
3) Plug the unused vacuum port on the carb.
If you have an auto tranny, you could use the other line at the carb for that.

They must be getting cheap. Ford did this by putting the connection for the oil cap vent hose on the underside of the air cleaner. Even the cheap 25 air cleaner comes with a plastic nipple for adding this. I have an original 289HP air cleaner on my 289HP, and I have the chrome oil cap with straight fitting connected to the factory nipple on the underside of the carb. You could easily add this. Or you could do without, and live with oil slime on your valve cover.

Huh? I'm trying to remember any connection between the Thermactor (smog) pump and intake. Should be no problem at all. Please explain, or better, a photo.

No. The Summit carb is universal. Connect the ported vacuum to the distributor, The PCV to the PCV, and cap the manifold port. If you get into "tuning" at some point, you might try using the manifold vacuum for the advance. Until then, stick with the ported vacuum.

IIRC, the valve for the thermactor system on my '67 was mounted to the back of the intake. Could be what he's talking about.

Ya it mounts on the back of the intake and theres a rectangular box that bolts to the actual intake manifold that has one line that goes to the thermactor and one that goes to the automatic transmission. Im wondering what can i do with the hoses that come from the exhaust manifold cap em or connect them together and what do i do with the AT vacuum line since i cant have the air pump hooked or maybe i with just put my own hook ups on this new air filter housing

From norcal, CA smog is a pain...but you're in luck, 66 doesn't require an airpump so you can remove it. You'll need to purchase the screw in plugs for the air injector ports on the heads. You'll need 8 of them at about $6-8 a piece. Soak all your air pump bolts with PB Blaster BEFORE you try to remove them, trust me.
