302 stock roller bottom end, heads, intake
It's been a long time since Ive been here, but ive saved up enough money, i hope, to finish my 65 mustang.
I bought a rebuilt 302 roller cam short block from a shop that was cleaning house. New crank bearings, rod bearings and piston rings for $100. I want to bolt on heads, intake and carb and have a nice driver.
I am new at engines and Ive searched and everything ive found has cam swao suggestions and because Im new to motors, Id like to keep the bottom stock. Any suggestions? Thanks

I'm not sure what your budget is, but for around $1800 you can pick up the RPM performace package from Summit. It comes with aluminum heads, cam, rods, bolts, gaskets and Air Gap intake. Makes a 302 run awesome but not too crazy.

Isnt that kit for a flat tappet cam and not a roller cam? This is why i need help. LOL

We definitely need a budget. You can built a stock 5.0 roller motor to make some significant power with the right components, but we need to know how much you can spend on things like heads, cam, etc.

Sorry. Read the work order on the engine wrong. Its a 302 roller block from a 98 explorer not a 93. I would like to see around 300rwhp if possible. I dont have any other parts. But i do have a running 289 in my mustang now with a Mallory dist, Weiand dual plane intake, Edelbrock 600cfm carb and Hedman long tube headers. I also have an AOD and an 8 inch rear end with 3.80s. I can spend $1500

And im trying to keep the torque converter and crossmember under $500..if that helps. So around $2000 total I have for the engine and tranny. The rest i need for sheet metal, paint, interior and wheels and tires
