Swap question with 302 FI and Tranny. (Pics of cars)
Ok As promised here are the pictures of the 65
The 87 GT
NOW for the question!
I was wondering, if I swapped the 302 AND AOD from the 87 to the 65, would it be a direct swap (I know there will be a few nitches here and there But Still?) I plan to swap wiring and harness over with the FI, which I guess I should get a chart to see exactly what wires are important and what I can lose.
Thanks for the info in advanced!
P.S. I did some searching but most of what I came up with is a newer 302 on an older tranny needing the balances changed. So I couldn't find anything on using a newer 302 AND Tranny.
Thanks again.

here is a little more info.
Yes, pre 1980 engines had a 28oz imbalance which used the flywheel/flexplate to balance it. After 1980 ford switched to a 50oz imbalance. this was also corrected with the flywheel/flexplate.
This has nothing to do with the trans. Make sure that if you use the newerengine that you use the flywheel/flexplate that came with it.
Other than this, the wiring, the transmission cross member and drive shaft, it will go right in!

Yep, but that 65was is a bascket case. How do you feel about fox bodies? I would just run the fox around while taking care of the body work and everything else on the 65 then when the car is ready (brakes, suspension, wiring for the new engine, everything...) then drop the motor and trans in.

i did that to my torino swapped a newer motor 91 331 into it. the only issue i had was the oil pan would hit the cross member. and could not use the double sump oil pan. had to get a older 71 302 oil pickup, and aftermarket oil pan.
