Default 68 mustang upgrades - low hanging fruit?

As I mentioned, I just bought a 68/289. I'm wondering what the typical (if there is such a thing) upgrades/fixes are. Nice bang-for-the-buck engine upgrades? Like, "Ah, you got a 68? You should replace the stock <bla> with a ...."

I don't need to go nuts, just wondering if there is anything like that...

Why don't you just enjoy it for a couple of months? Subscribe to Mustang Monthly is a good place to start.

a 4v carb and intake would be nice if you dont have one already.

There are about 3890145789768901430934689037989021 things you can do to it, and much of it depends on what you want. Could do a simple rebuild, new pistons/rings, and give it a better cam, maybe get some better heads, decent intake and a 4bbl, it'll be reliable, run like a champ, sound great etc. Best advice if you start doing anything performance wise, keep it SIMPLE!!! Don't start getting into trying to extract high power numbers, or out handle a Ferarri etc, it will start to get VERY cost very quickly once you cross a certain threshold. Just keep it simple and reliable for now. Whatever you do, start with baby steps, and work your way up. Books are a good place to start, to learn about performance, what you want, and what you have to do to get there. A good place to start, would be brakes/suspension, and most of our cars are in need of that(if it hasn't already been done) and factory Mustang suspension/brakes are sorely lacking

actually there are 3890145789768901430934689037989047. things you can do with an even larger number of valid opinions but if you want my 2c I suggest a suspension upgrade a disc brakes (if you dont have em yet). Its not cheep but definitely low hanging fruit in my book.

I say pertronix ignition, MC and Export braces are good cheap starts, then go from there and address any underlying problems the car may have.

My 2 cents: Start with disc brakes, Pertronix (or other to replace your points) and export brace.

It can be really scary when there is a deep water puddle right before a red light if you are using 4 wheel drums. [:'(]

3rd for disc brakes, power brakesif you have a few extra $$$ - even if you just upgrade the front to disc and inspect/repair the rear drums and lines as necessary.... all the other mod's/upgrades you do arefor naught if you cant stop it when you need to.
