Opened the aod oil pan and found this part floating in the oil....

When assembled at the factory, that is the plug that is used in the dipstick hole. They just push it into the trans when putting in the dipstick. Yes, that means the trans has never been opened. Again, you are right. Unfortunately, Ford and everyone else went to the stupid Metric system starting in 1974.

That would explain the huge METRIC label on the bottom of the oil pan.
Now I purchased this tranny from a guy who had it sitting for 10 years and hope its not fried as the oil was dark brownish in color and not very clear.
