I was wanting anyone to chime in who has experience with the Borgeson power steering box. My 65 has power steering but it is sloppy, especially above 55mph. Lots of roadwalk, oversteer, or whatever. All front end parts were replaced trying to isolate the problem. Steering gear box seems to be okay. I have heard that the factory power steering on these Mustang have this problem and that one way to correct it is to go with the Borgeson unit. Thanks in advance..

Did you try to adjust the steering box yet?

Hello...yes. It was too tight to turn the screw so I left it alone. When I have someone turn the steering wheel I see immediate response from the box.

Have you checked the alignment? I think the Borgeson is off an Isuzu Trooper with a machined shaft to accept the Mustang pitman. They are "Heavy" units.

I have had the alignment checked at two seperate alignment shops. Neither could get the road walk out.

Any chace it could be an issue with one of the front tires? Just throwing it out there.....if you have another set...throw them on.....or move the front to the back if the sizes permit.

Is the connection between the power steering ram and the frame solid?

Hello, yes....new power steering ram, center link, and power valve. All are tight.

The only thing I think you can do now is check the backlash in the box as it may be worn out. You should be able to get it rebuilt for under 200 bux. Here's something you may try first. The Adjustment Screw lowers the Sector Shaft into the housing and forces the Sector Shaft Teeth to mesh with the teeth on the Rack Block. This screw also sets the amount of end play of the Sector Shaft. This screw must have enough clearance to allow the Sector Shaft to turn without binding on the screw, but not so much that there is excessive end play in the Sector Shaft to affect gear mesh. I would only go a 1/4 turn then check for bind and effect on the play before turning it again. "If" this doesn't help, you need a rebuild.
