What do these main bearings say???
These were in the 302 I had in my 66. The block wasn't what I thought it was. It was a 79 out of an LTD II. In any case what kind of story do these bearings tell? I may rebuild this back to a standard 302 or if the crank is bad, 331 or 347. Left = Front
Crank. Middle journal was in great shape. The lines on the surface, you can catch your nail on them.

The light grooving is probably dirt in the oil.
The really worn bearing surface is probably insufficient lubrication (partially plugged oil passage) or bad machining when they turned the crank last.
btw here is a great reference!

Thanks! That is a great reference.
The bearings are Federal Mogul STD. The scoring on the crank is light. Do you think it's worth getting a crank turned? or just polished?
On another note, on a cold engine I did a leakdown test. I had 6 out of the 8 cyl in the 20% area and 2 opposing with 45% or so. They were leaking past the rings.
I had a vibration problem with this engine in the 2500 rpm range. I suppose weak cylinders could do that?
Just trying to learn. Thanks for the document. Good reading.
