351C-4V or a crazy mismatch
I am currently attempting to restore a '73 Mach 1 and am running into some issues. According to the VIN, it is supposed to have a 302-2V engine but somewhere along the line a 351C was installed. The valve covers have 8 bolts and the thermostat housing is direct to the block. I have been trying to figure out if I could get more information on the engine since it is not original but I found some contradicting (at least to me) information. The engine has a 4-barrel carbeurator. As far as I can tell the heads are 4V as there is a number "4" on the upper corners. The block has a casting code of D2AE-CA (3B17) and I have not yet removed the oil pan to figure out if it is a 2-bolt or a 4-bolt main. What has me confused are the exhaust manifolds. What is on the engine are D2OE-9430-BA and D1ZE-9431-AA, which I found online to be the manifolds for the 351C-2V. Were these manifolds used on this engine or did somebody try to modify a 2V into a 4V? I appreciate any help.

The 4v exhaust ports were bigger so the 4v head came from the factory with different exhaust manifolds. The 2v manifolds can bolt up to the 4v heads but there would be a port mis-match. Looks like someone couldn't find 4v manifolds so they put on the 2v units. Maybe headers should be in your future.
