Default 65 Intake Manifold Options - need suggestions

Hello,

I just got married last Friday and spent most of my weekend on my honeymoon. Then when I got back home on Sunday, I thought "What better way to relax than work on the ole 65 fastback." I swapped out the thermostat and thermostat housing when I noticed a CRACK created from over tightening the bolt on the therm housing.

I'm trying to keep this car as stock as possible but just out of curiosity, I'd like to know the benefits and trouble people experience with an old intake manifold.

Option 1: Replace the cracked original manifold with a new Edelbrock for a 289. Is this a better long-term solution? Any benefits performance wise?

Option 2: Weld the cracked area. Or if there is an easier way to get the cracked piece back on.

Option 3: Buy an intake manifold from a 65 289 to keep the numbers matching.

I think I'm liking the third option the best but I wanted to weigh the pros and cons of the others.

Sounds like you already know what you want to do. Id pick option 1 with a 4 barrell carb to go on top. stash away the stock one maybe even fix it. Then when you want your numbers matching treasure to go on barrett jackson you can make it #s matching again.

PS. sorry to hear about you getting married

where you located in CA? I've got a perfectly good C6 dated four barrel intake sitting in my garage unused.

I'm in the SF Bay Area. I'm loving the dates but will the original two barrel carb fit on a four barrel intake? I know everyone likes to upgrade but this fastback was my mom's first car so I'd like to try to keep it as stock as possible. That and I just rebuilt the carb so it would be a shame to put that work to waste.
