I picked up my power booster w/ dual piston/reservior master cylinder from Mutang Depot out of Las Vegas. They have a decent website www.mustangdepot.com. It was about $350.00 shipped.

The best part is the dual piston master cylinder. This way if you loose a wheel cylinder you only loose brakes on that axle, not the whole hydraulic system. Really a great upgrade!

I have seen them as low as $260.00 on ebay, if you have an automatic. I'd be willing to bet that one of the club members could do the whole thing, with a power booster from a wrecking yard, and a rebuilt master cylinder from an auto parts store for less then $500.00.

Really liked your advice for others buying a Mustang (or any car long distance). I'm sorry you had to go through that. At least is sounds like the car is solid. I've heard some really bad horror stories, and did an inspection for a guy one time on a car that was just horribly misrepresented. Got stuck in the middle and decided right there and then, I want no part of doing any more. a good Certified inpector earns every penny (s)he gets paid.

When I picked up my convertible, that was at the high end price range for what it is, I turned around in the first month and spent a thousand dollars on nothing but maintenance items. Then the next month took if for a 300 mile jaunt, feeling comfortable that I would have no problems. So in the long run, it's a blessing to go over this stuff yourself (or have somebody you trust help).

Good luck and have fun with it.

Thanks Scott!

well, I have now identified two areas that need to be upgraded.
The power brakes and the radiator.
And a good bit that just needs to be fixed.

But they are on hold.

The big news today is I found the guy who is going to make things well, or issue the death certificate!
Great little guy (reco'd by a fellow at the Mustang Club) who restores everything and anything.
He owns all kinds of stuff. I know he has a restored old Cadillac and a Studebaker pickup.
He is currently doing a frame off on a 68 Camaro for himself.
He just completed a 6 month rebuild of an Airplane for a local doctor. Worked on it every day for 6 months he said.

It's odd.
He's not actually "in business".
He doesn't advertise.
He doesn't have business cards.
There is no name on his "shop".
His shop by the way is a double hangar at a local Air Park.

I took it to him for the hood and doors, but he is going to look at everything.
He is not optimistic that we should go forward.
He has already found bolts that were welded and "repair pieces" that were welded on, etc.
But he says he can refit the hood, fenders and doors and make the windows go up and down smoothly for $200.
He will have it on the lift over the weekend and we will meet Monday.
He has already told me that he "could" advise me to put it back up on Ebay and sell it as a #2 or 3 car.
Seems like a low rating for a car advertised as "1966 Ford Mustang - Fully restored! All new everything!", doesn't it? But that was the headline
on Ebay by this classic car dealer in Missouri.
The guy at the dealership says they will pay................but that just keeps me from posting negative feedback.
we shall see.

I'm in MO, I've very curious as to who this dealer is?

If you'd prefer not to put it in a post, that is fine, PM me. I'd just like to be able to worn locals if the need arises.

I will.
But not at this time.
What would I be if I slammed him and then he paid for all the repairs?

Let's see how this plays out.
It will all be resolved one way or the other within a month.
I will name him at that time along with the final outcome.
I promise.

I purchased a 1966 Mustang from Columbia Car Classics of Columbia Missouri on Sept 5. 2005
The gentleman's name was Aaron Payne.
The logon was ccclassics
I did this by winning an auction on Ebay.
I wired 100% of the money due ($16,700) for a restored 1966 Mustang FB with PS, PB and AC
within 48 hours after talking to Aaron Payne and receiving dealership's account number/routing number.
I have now found that Aaron Payne is a shyster.
I have started proceedings with Ebay (They could care less)
I have contacted an Attorney in Columbia MO, and turned over the information
that is noted here.

Please see the ad on Ebay
http:/tinyurl.com/bksob
Note that it says such things as:

Ground up Restoration
Needs nothing
NO RUST.
Factory Power Brakes

NONE of these things are true.
The car has been “fixed up†for sale, but most certainly has not been “restoredâ€.
This is obvious in the Pictures located at http://photobucket.com/albums/b256/hfelknor/

Case in point.
This car has a Unibody.
That means there is no frame.
The strength of the car comes from stamped steel panels that are welded to each other. This car has some new panels, but they are screwed and bolted together. No welds. This affects the strength of the car.
My mechanic, a restoration specialist, says the car is unsafe without having
the unibody welded.
The engine will have to removed from the car and many, many welds made.
In some instances the welds will not be complete without stripping the car of all wiring, and all engine compartment components.
This will be very expensive but still will not yield a “restored†car.

NO RUST
Obviously the pictures tell a different story.
It needs new panels. It needs a complete sandblasting and coverage with a rust protectant.
The pictures show the extent of the rust.
In one shot you can see the road thru the holes in the floor!
The panels again, are screwed on, NOT welded.

Factory Power Brakes,
The pictures show there are NO power brakes installed on this car.
There is no dual MC or booster.
Never have been.

There are additional problems.
The charging circuit is inoperative. And has been, as the Voltage regulator wasn’t even plugged in.
The AC does not cool.
The doors are out of line and make loud noises when they are opened and closed.
The hood and front fenders are out of alignment. Probably because the shock towers, which are considered the strongest members in the front end are not welded either, allowing the fenders and hood to move.
The transportation company noted upon pickup of the car in Columbia Missouri, that there were paint chips where the hood had hit the fenders.
The windows do not open or close. None of them.
The automatic choke does not work.
The horns do not work.
The Transmission leaks.

The car has been completely misrepresented.
It is NOT restored.
It is NOT RUST FREE (sellers capitalization).
It is not in a condition where it needs nothing.
It needs many thousands of dollars to make it as advertised.
The mechanic has presented me with an estimate of $7,000 to $10,000 to make the car a good driver.
Basically, it has to be stripped and sandblasted and treated with Por.
Then the front end needs all new bushings, boots, PS hoses, etc.
The u joints need to be replaced and the transmission has to be checked out.
Doors have to be taken apart, all the interior has to come out and......well you guys know.
In the end the whole car needs to be rebuilt except for the few new parts that are on it.
The Mechanic said that it was probably "rebuilt" by somebody that had no lift,
and no welding gear or talent.

As to the MCA:
I wrote a letter to the MCA where I outlined my problems and asked if they could help (or
forward the letter to someone who could.
I was looking for a g=judge/appraiser who could doublecheck and certify the Mecahincs report.
It would seem to me that the MCA is less than a standup org.
They didn't have to help me by turning me on to a Judge/appraiser etc.
But they DID have to answer my Email. It's called manners.
What a rude organization.

Since I have too many scruples to put this thing back on Ebay (and screw somebody else) and since
I do not have any desire to own a $27,000 Mustang, I will likely sell it to this mechanic for
$6,000.

Hopefully, this will serve to warn you to not do business with Columbia Car Classics or Aaron Payne.
And I would question doing business with Ebay.
They offer precious little help when they are the vehicle of fraud.
As to Aaron Payne, he is a crook and I have published the proof.
I have additional proof in Emails etc.

Thanks to the folks who helped and answered questions etc during my short career as a classic mustang owner.
I hope that y'all live a long and prosperous life.
I HAVE enjoyed the forum!

I'm absolutely sorry for your misfortune. I hope this works out someway well and you become attached to a classic mustang in a positive way. Good luck.
