Question Rear End 8" gear oil capacity?

Hi I just got a 8" rear end and swapping it into my inline 6, I drained the fluid out of the fill hole since i am not rebuilding it now. Question is how many quarts does it take? I put 2-1/2 quarts in but not sure if that is the correct amount for it. I used 85w-140 because I read online to use that oil.

Thoughts?

The capacity is up to the fill hole. when it starts to run out, it's full. you should be pretty close at 2 1/2 quarts.

I have the rear end on jack stands so the fill hole is on top, not on the side like when it's in the car. So looking inside it looks to be half fill with the 2-1/2 quarts but I am sure if I turn it on it's side it will be just about to the hole. Thanks
