I know roller rockers where a big thing in the early mid '80's when I was into cars back then as people used to talk about them during cruise in's and such.
There weren't a lot of roller motors like we are used to today and the roller rockers were going into older cars back then. It seemed like lots of Chebby's had them in as they always seemed to be cheaper then the Ford stuff..

if you use link bar lifters, you can use a standard base circle cam. this is what i have.
if you want to use the spider/dog bone lifters, then you need a small base circle cam.
below are the hydraulic lifters in mine. no spider, no drilling, etc. i have a 69 351w block.
