As I said it used to be done, I don't know the details.

I know roller rockers where a big thing in the early mid '80's when I was into cars back then as people used to talk about them during cruise in's and such.

There weren't a lot of roller motors like we are used to today and the roller rockers were going into older cars back then. It seemed like lots of Chebby's had them in as they always seemed to be cheaper then the Ford stuff..

why do you keep talking about roller rockers? what does that have to do with going from a flat tappet to a roller lifters?

My bad, I assumed he was talking about roller rockers, until I reread what I just reread.
I'm not used to talking about roller lifters.
Nothing more to see here from me....

you need a reduced base circle camshaft and roller lifters that are linked...its pricey to do but can easily be done..

With the linked lifters, would I need the spider and all that jazz?

hmm. are you sure? are you talking about an early block?

if you use link bar lifters, you can use a standard base circle cam. this is what i have.

if you want to use the spider/dog bone lifters, then you need a small base circle cam.

below are the hydraulic lifters in mine. no spider, no drilling, etc. i have a 69 351w block.

Roller cams were considered "exotic" back in the late 70's-early 80's, now they're common place. I think that's what he was talking about. Linked lifters were and are expensive, but they work.
