Default No VIN on inner fender

Does this present a problem? I recently bought a 65 A code GT that is missing the VIN from the drivers side inner fender( possibly has been changed at one time and lost?). It has the one on the drivers door but it says not for registration purposes. This a problem?

In itself no, however, the VIN on the doorplate was not Ford's legal means of identification (it's technically a warranty plate). Cars of this vintage were known to have entire front "clips" installed by body shops if a front end collision occurred. There is also a VIN under the right front fender rear apron. You have to loosen the fender to get at it.
If that VIN code is also missing, your A code car is potentially suspect since the door plates can be replaced for about 25 bucks.

If you take off the fender there is a hidden vin on the same edge but its between the shock tower and fire wall. And there is a hidden vin on the same spot on the passenger side too.And see if that vins match each other and the door tag too.

What's sad is it's perfectly legal to replace a missing VIN on a replacement panel in the course of a legitimate repair. Shops are typically too lazy to do it. Worse, many, many Mustangs have the wrong door tag because repairmen were too lazy to move the tag. Might take two whole minutes.

Thanks for the input. I suppose I should try to find the other VINs. But I really hate to disassemble the car to find out.

It sucks but the vin is a big part of what the car is worth so knowing helps a lot.

If you are careful, you should be able to see them without taking the fender off. You will have to take the top bolts out, and then pry/lift the fender back just enough to peak under and see the numbers. I have seen several cars get their VIN's verified, and they always managed to see those numbers without removing the fenders.

I just have to take the lower rear bolt out and a few of the top ones - you don't have to take the entire fender off, just loosen the bolts most of the way.

2+2- I couldn't have said it any better-right on !

Might try looking up from underneath. If there's not too much undercoating, you may be able to see the backside of the embossing of the VIN.
