1968 Mustang Coupe Trans Issue
How's it going everybody. I have a problem that may or may not have been discussed before, if it has, i apologize. So 3 months ago my father passed away and left me his 1968 mustang coupe. i helped him build it when i was younger but im not a big car guy. Anyway since moving the car to my house ive driven it almost every sunday depending on the weather. The car sounds awesome, runs great and everything is fully restored and fairly new. However i notice a couple minutes after i park the car, transmission fluid is on the ground. Then about 2-3 days later ALL the trans fluid has leaked out. It does it everytime after i drive it. It never leaks as im driving it. Ive had it put up on a lift by a good friend of mine and he says he cant see any leaks and everything is fine so either he doesnt know what hes talking about or its something else that we're both missing. Also keep in mind that before i started driving it, it wasnt started or driven for over 3 months. Any info is greatly appreciated!

I think it's called torque converter leak down, assuming you have a 3 speed C4. I had the shop explain this to me when I had my tranny built. There's a check-ball in the pump of the tranny. When the tranny is sitting, this check ball prevents the fluid in the torque converter from draining back into the body of the tranny. If this check ball get dirty, or damaged, and doesn't seat, the fluid will brain back and come out the vent tube on the drivers side of the tranny. If I recall, that's a 5/16" vent tube. To control the drain back, I bent a new tube that loops up and back down to help keep the fluid in the tranny.

Thanks for the input groho, i appreciate it. On that note .. anyone have any idea how i can remove the trans fluid stains from my garage floor (concrete). The fluid probably sat for about a month and a half at the most. I used speedy dry to remove the actual liquid and i have this stuff called "drive up" for removal of the stain but it doesnt look like its working. Any tips?? its a fairly large stain.

QQ, best to remove oil stains is Oil Eater. Even gets the black stains from my dirty diesel oil off.
If you need a spare trans I have one you can have free, just pick it up. If it doesn't go in a week it will be off to Red Bank recycling.
