Default valve noise?

hello

Ive noticed a clicking which sounds like its from the right side of the engine and it increases speed with engine RPM. It sounds like a valve.

First I checked exhaust gaskets and replaced them both this made no difference.

I have never adjusted the valves and the engine has about 60k miles on it. There are no other issues it runs strong.

What can I do to clear this up?

Thanks

Hi,
Can you offer when the ticking started or what the circumstances were when it started?
If you are absolutely sure there are no exhaust leaks (they sound alike), then remove the valve cover, isolate the valve (engine idling) and give the nut an 1/8th turn.
I offer this, assuming the oil has been changed at the proper intervals and level is good. Just want minimize the chance of any "sticking lifter" possibility due to dirty oil.

I replaced both exhaust gaskets the old ones didnt look all that bad. The new ones made no difference.

I do change the oil often it was last changed saturday.

as for circumstances the only change is I switched from chain to gear driven timing I am wondering if the click is from the gears and not the from the valve train...

Im going to get one of the car stethoscopes and see if that helps me locate anything.

Thanks

-Gun

I got the mechanic's stethoscope and everything sounded awesome until I placed it above the valves on the PS side of the engine. You could hear a click from that location.

Took the valve cover off and that rocker is very loose it almost looks twisted too.
Ill post video in a few minutes

Wow! that's your feller! alright. I wonder if the lifter collapsed and died?

my thoughts exactly.

I put a ratchet on the damper and rotated the engine a few turns and the push rod appears to move just as much as the others and the rocker sits tight against the valve steam when compressed.

Not sure what to do next.

Hi,
At this point button'er up and take a cautious ride. See if anything develops. If not, probably OK. If it returns, I'd pull the manifold and replace all of the lifters. Mi "MO" is not the type that replaces one or two.
Happy Motoring....?

okay so obviously before putting back together I should re-adjust that rocker.

Fire it up tighten bolt until it stops clicking

turn 1/2 tighter

Sound about right?

I also agree If im gonna pull the damn intake again it will be all new lifters.
