Default Can I go in this hole?

Figured the title might get a few extra views....get your mind out of the gutter!!

I am working on installing a second water temperature sender and I wanted to know if it is okay to remove the brass plug and install it here by the pump. I can't use the normal one as it sends high readings (feel free to offer a fix for that as well).

I am rigging up a switch with an Autometer gauge in the dash so I can go back and forth between trans temp and a more accurate water temp.

Should I get my car drunk first? Do you know if the normal autometer fittings will fit?

there should be a adapter that will come with the gauge and sender

No real problems as long as you use adapters and don't screw the temp sending unit into the thermostat housing, it looks close to the tehrmostat itself and you don't want to deform it and cause overheating problems.

That hole is intended for the Distributor Vacuum Control Valve, which senses any overheat condition and increases idle speed to cool the engine. An ideal location for a temp sensor.

You could get a Ford sender. The aftermarket ones are cheap and notoriously inaccurate.

Never seen a water neck with that extra port on it..... 2 things that I would question is 1) would the water temp sensor hit the thermostat and 2) what would the temp difference be between each side of the thermostat.

I just ran into this problem with an Atomic EFI install. The install requires it's own water temp sensor port and I wanted to keep my gauge as well. with the setup i had (Edelbrock RPM Air gap and water neck without a port) I couldn't use both. To make a long story short, I bought a Professional products intake manifolds which has the rear coolant crossover like the stock manifolds (Edelbrocks don't) and it comes with two ports. so in all, the professional products intake has 3 water temp ports. I will say that there is about a 10 degree difference between the front and rear.

As a heads up everything worked out
