Passing out camshaft advice is similar to discussing religion or politics. There are so many varied opinions that one cannot help but step on someone's toes. Oh, well, here ya go. I would personally stay with a cam profile under .500 lift and under 280 degrees of duration. I would keep the lobe center line at 110 degrees or more, depending on where I wanted the power to come on. I would look for something that offered a bit more lift and/or duration on the exhaust side than on the intake side. I would look for the advertised power curve to begin in the 1,500-1,800 rpm range. This profile will keep the idle characteristics more in line with a streetable automatic and allow the use of a basically standard stall converter.
Best,
Al

I've got the same cam in my 347. Running twisted wedge heads, Edelbrock performer rpm, and 650 Holley DP. Based on recommendations from Ford Stokers. Plus a built c4 with 3.44 gears and trac-loc. I With my combination and gears am around 3000 rpm at 65. I don't think taller gears are necessary, you'll get some pretty good low end grunt with that cam. I actually have a shft kit with Mega shifter and can manully shift when I want to. I would not worry about keeping original C4. 71 and higher C4 are better and you can get one at summit (TCI) for around $1000 that should hold up fine to your HP.

One thing to be aware of is that cam is a little noisey. More valve train noise than I was used to at first - I actually thought something was wrong with engine. Did some research and found that Xtreme Energy cams are noted for having more valve train noise than others.

Do you know what kind of mileage you are getting with that motor, how much power it makes, and how often do you drive it?

From a power standpoint suppose to be close to 400/400. Never dyno'd but it will definitely put you back in you seat. I drive every weekend not a daily driver. Gas mileage is not too good never checked it just feels like a lot of trips to station for as much as I drive it. I do have my foot in it a lot though. Sorry can't give you better details.
