Default What do you think of this combo?

So for my 65 mustang i am thinking of this combo for it. I am going to build a 347 with the eagle stroker kit, AFR 185 heads, eldebrock performer intake, eldebrock 600 cfm carb, xe274hr comp cam, a c4 transmission, and 3.73 gears in the rear. I want to know what your guys opinion is on it. If you have any better ideas please recommend them.

eagle has a bad reputation. just make sure whatever parts you get are fully checked by a machine shop. I was in JEGS (11 ave. columbus) the other day and they had an eagle crank on display in one of the isles. looked like they gave a blind person a die grinder.

isn't the performer intake basically an aluminum version of a factory intake?

this looks like a street type of build. consider an RPM.

i've had one stock C4 in my life and it didn't last long behind a really mild 289. maybe the shop doing the work wasn't up to the task or i had really bad luck.

Hi,
+ 1 on the rotating assy advice and intake. Your C4 will need attention to handle the additional torque the 347 is capable of producing. Also, be aware your hwy Rs with that 3.73 is going to be in the neighborhood of 3500. When I was running my C4, 25.6" tires, and 3.55 gears, my hwy at 70 mph, was 3000. Now, with a T5 it's not quite 2K. (5th .63). You might want to bum the carb cfm a bit, as well.
Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the info, do you recommend any better stroker kit. I do plan having the c4 built better and the reason i am going with it is because its the original tranny and i want to keep some originality to the car. Also i am choosing the 3.73 gears because i live where i don't need to get on the highway at all.

I'm happy with my Scat kit. Machine shop didn't have any problems balancing, and it was very affordable. DSS has a nice kit, but I wasn't thrilled with their customer service when I called them. They kept trying to sell me on their main girdle kit, which is really nice but also really not necessary for a car making <450hp.

Like the others have said I would go with at least a performer rpm or air gap. Carb size is too small as well for a performance engine.

Seems that your camshaft is pretty aggressive, especially for an automatic. The idle in gear will be really rough. The camshaft calls for a 2,500 stall converter, which will be a real PITA in street use. The C-4 is plenty strong enough (when properly built) to handle far more horses than you will deliver. Carb is NOT too small unless your plans are to only race the car. If that is the case, your valves are too small, also.
Best,
Al

Do you have any recommendations for a better cam and carb.

Just so you know you will be miserable on the highway with that setup gearwise. I have a mild tuned 302 with dynomax vt dual exhausts and my rear gear is the stock 2.79. I would consider and AOD swap as the ratios are the same except it has one more gear. If you are just using it for local cruising and racing you will be fine. Me....I need to drive 4-6hr at a time....especially if I am ever going to go across country.
