Default Can I drive it without hurting anything else

My 1967 rack and pinon is broken and now the belt is squealing. Can I just take te belt off and drive without hurting anything else?

You sure that it's really a rack & pinion and not just a standard power steering setup?

yes you can the belt off but steering effort will be a lot harder
