Default 71 Mustang Pertronix Help

hey guys hope all is well i need to see if you can help me out with this.
I recently got a 71 coupe with the 250 CI Inline Six. I want to install a pertronix ignitor I with the Pertronix Flamethrower I.

Since this car has the ignition switch in the column, how do i bypass the resistor wire so i can get 12v to the coil.

please let me know how you guys have done this the easiest way.

thanks,

I installed the Pertronix 1 in my 66 with a 200 I6 and did not bypass the pink wire (resistor wire), car starts and runs great. If you want to get a full 12 volts to it Pertronix make a ignition power relay that will work without removing the switch.

Hi,
Pertronix specifically specifies a dedicated switched 12V source to the RED lead. I'm sure you can find one somewhere under the dash, if not, then in the engine compartment. Otherwise, you don't have a leg to stand on, if you go back to them on a burned out unit. Just trying to be helpful!

In support of the last poster, different pertronix units/coils have different voltage requirements. If you contact pertronix directly they will furnish you with a recommendation and diagram. If you get just a recommendation, either post here or PM me and I will draw up a diagram for you.

i appreciate the help. i was able to find a wiring diagram online and was able to trace the resistor wire to the column i splice in and car runs great! just need to check my timing now to make sure it is on point which i doubt it is. it has a slight miss at idle only

I installed this same set on my 68 289 and the Pertronix tech sent me this diagram to use. Worked for me.
