Unhappy 65 hipo heads

I bought a 90 mustang and was told it had a 289 hipo motor in it from a 68. when I removed the valve covers it was stamped with a 65, so it appeares to be a 65. It also had slotted push rod holes, which would conferm it to be a early65. when I looked at the rocker arms there was no nut on the stud, but the studs appeare to be held in with roll pins. also had a 5 stamped on the outer edge of the heads. Is it just a 289 from a 65? or maybe proto type of some kind????

Pull a lifter out, it its a solid lifter then maybe. Hydraulic lifter, youve been scammed. Though i don't think hipo motors were made past 66.

Where "289" is cast into the head between the valve springs, does it have one or two dots above the "289"? Two dots = Hipo/K code...

Also, hipo valve spring seats are cupped at the bottom.

How the heck did anyone take the time to get a HiPo 289 into a 1990 car and get it emissions legal? Rocker studs secured with a roll pin would be pressed in, whereas the HiPo heads would have had screw-in studs. Not likely that the motor is HiPo. Everything about the setup seems wrong. Just sayin'
Best,
Al
