Default 66 mustang winter project

It's been years since I've posted here but I've been reading the posts. While it's wet and cold, I decided to add front disk brakes and rebuild my 289. I went with the SSBC manual front brake conversion kit from Mustang's Unlimited. I haven't driven the car yet so I can't give a review on how they work. I found out that my 289 had never been rebuilt, which the original owner did tell me when I purchased the car. After 47 years, the block did not need to be bored so the shop cleaned it up and honed it. For the top end, I'm going with the Edelbrock Performer RPM kit (heads, cam, intake, 600cfm carb) and a HEI distributor. I'm also adding ceramic long tube headers by Hedman. I will try to post up some pics later.

No, I didn't go with the roller rockers on this build.

For those that have used an HEI distributor, what size air filter did you have to use? I'm thinking I might have some clearance issues with a 14" filter assembly. That dizzy is huge...and I might end up changing it.

I just put mine on with a 14" filter, no problems at all. Only one I see as problematic are oval filters.

I'm curious to know why an HEI and not a Pertronix or Ford Duraspark distributor?
