65 Rearend
I've searched and can't seem to find an exact yes/no to my question. I met with a gentleman who has a 68 Coupe and put an 8.8 rear from a 90 Fox. He said he is running 02 wheels and still needed to add 1" spacers to make it work. My question is seeing how my 65 Fastback is (correct me if i'm wrong) 2" narrower, couldn't I just put the 8.8 in my car without the spacers? Currently I have an 8" with an open diff and want something stronger with a better ratio when I do T5 swap.

ya know I think the wheel offset may have something to do with the spacer size, but someone here did that swap and modified an explorer rear end and modified the 8.8 axle tubes to center the rear end 3rd member. If I recall it would fit a 65/66 car but the 3rd member is not in the middle of the car.

Locate a Granada, Fairmont, Versailles or Monarch in the 1974-1978 range with a 351W engine. They will have a 9" that is a direct bolt-in. ISFAIK, retrofitting an 8.8" axle into an early Mustang will require some modification.

I personally don't like that idea, the brakes are goofy and if I recall correctly the ring gears are all poor choices.
