FYI,
In the start mode, the coil should be receiving 12Vs, after which (running), it'll drop 4-5 volts as it's running through the resistor ckt. Why do you think the coil is bad?
Have you checked for spark when grounding the coil lead?

I'm going to go with the other guys and SWAG that it's a fuel delivery issue.

It certainly wouln't hurt to check your electrical though. When you pull your coil wire from your distributor, lay the terminal up against your monte carlo bar, turn the key on and then jumper across your starting solonoid and make sure that you have a good blue spark. A yellow spark is crap. A blue/white spark is the ticket.

Can't say for sure that the coil is your problem, but, in the 40 plus years of messing with these Mustangs, I have seen the coil blamed for all sorts of problems, and the final fix was RARELY the coil. Just sayin'
Best,
Al

Im not sure that would be your issue unless its shutting itself off somehow. Do you have a mechanical or electrical fuel pump? I agree with it sounding like a fuel delivery issue.

My coil left me stranded about a month ago. The car ran like crap and was breaking up real bad under full throttle but ran ok just putzing around then it up and died altogether in what passes for rush hour traffic around here.

The spare I had been toting around in the trunk for 10 years was bad too. That cost me a tow. Got home and pulled the Accel coil out of my boat (1976 Century Raven 20', 351W, 233hp & 58mph on a dinged up prop FTW) and now the fastback is running like a raped ape.

Just sayin'.
