why am i burning oil
#13
I would do that, I used one of those one time and it forced a press in oil galley plug to pop out and fall on the timing chain and force the motor to jump time....ouch. Never again.
Also, oil control ring tension could be an issue if the gaps are staggered wrong or the gaps are overly wide etc..
Edit to add, the valve guides or even seals can really cause a bit of smoke and oil burning. If you pulled the old valves out with a bur on the top of the stems you may have scored the guides.
