Default why am i burning oil

I thought it was due soley to my valve seals. Welm i ponied up and slapped in a brand new set of tfs heads. And manbit runs sweet. It rocks. But i am still burning oil.
I did a compression test. All the cylinders come in really close to each other at about 190 psi. So if the heads are great and the compression is good what is it.
Could it be the high pressure oil pump. I have heard of them causing issues. Im just sick of the smoking.

Well, you've eliminated half of the possibilities so I'm going to guess that it's gotta be a/the ring(s).
How are all of your spark plugs looking? Are any of them oilier (is that a word?) than the others?

How old is the build on the engine?

I wold say there is about 10k miles on it. I rebuilt it about 3 years ago but havent driven it that much. I havent checked the plugs since i finished the heads a few days ago. I will do it this week end.

I assume though that since the compression test is good that the rings should be be good as well.

Any ideas on the oil pump?

I know this may sound super simple, but how much oil are you running in your sump?

Any chance you are over full?

Let me ask you this...

With only 10k on it, has it ever not smoked?

I've had engines that took a long time for the rings to really seat and I have looked like a freight train smoking down the road so I know from whence you speak.

My chingo is a big Pontiac head and his last 455, one of his pistons rings didn't seat until it was north of 10k. I use to bust his ***** about it all the time because...well, that's what friends do.

He said 'screw it' because it was just puffing a little bit and wasn't worth the hassle to him to pull it all back apart and just kept driving it and eventually they did seat and the smoking stopped. His leaky cylinder was easily identified by the oily than the rest sparkplug.

What motor is it?
Did you use synthetic break in oil?
Are you running synthetic oil now?
And why did you use a High pressure oil pump?

it is the original block that was rebuilt.

i went ahead and disconnected the pcv and plugged the vac port. the smoking did decrease a lot. so could i be burning a large amount of oil just from blow by. I think i am going to go ahead and remove the pcv and just use a vent there for now.

it still smokes but not nearly as bad.

the short block was assembled by a local engine builder with a good name. So i assume they did.

after disconnecting the pcv the amount it is burning went down a lot. It is still burning a little.

I am getting a ton of blow by though. Is that normal?
